Russia-Ukraine War: Telangana Migrant Worker Killed In Russian Missile Strike In Odesa

A 42-year-old construction worker from Telangana named Vavilala Sudarshan Goud, also known as Vavila Sudershan or Sudarshan Goud, tragically lost his life in a Russian missile strike in Odesa, Ukraine. The attack occurred amid a surge of missile and drone strikes across Ukraine. Goud, who had relocated to Ukraine four months prior for work, was among other migrant workers residing in Odesa when the missile strike unfolded.

Upon hearing air-raid sirens, he and another colleague fled their accommodation to seek safety. However, Goud was struck by the missile while running in one direction, succumbing to his injuries instantly. Another Telangana worker, Ganesh Kalleda, reportedly survived the attack, though details of his condition remain unclear due to conflicting reports.

The Russian strikes resulted in at least 12 fatalities across Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirming the loss of life. Odesa, Kyiv, and other regions suffered significant damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. The Indian Embassy in Ukraine expressed its condolences to Goud's family and pledged to provide all necessary assistance, including repatriation of his remains to India for final rites.

The tragedy underscores the perilous conditions faced by Indian migrant workers, especially those who undertake jobs in conflict-stricken areas. Goud's family remains distraught over the loss of a loved one who had ventured abroad in search of a better life.
