Report: Balogun's transfer from Monaco to Everton appears to have fallen through

In the final hours of the transfer window on Tuesday, it seems the high-profile move of U.S. international Folarin Balogun from Monaco to Everton has hit a snag. According to The Athletic, issues arose during a medical examination that have reportedly prevented the deal from going through. The promising player was reportedly present at Everton's training facility, but ultimately did not sign with the club. Everton, however, has yet to release an official statement on the matter.

The British media, including the Press Association, had initially reported that Everton had offered Balogun a hefty sum of around 40 million pounds ($54 million). The 25-year-old Balogun, who has two years left on his contract with Monaco, had made a significant impact in the summer as he netted three goals for the U.S. national team, propelling them to the knockout stage of the World Cup.

He also garnered attention after receiving a red card and subsequently a one-game suspension in a 2-0 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a penalty that was later deferred by U.S. President Donald Trump, allowing Balogun to participate in the round of 16. However, he ended up playing in the 4-1 loss to Belgium, which concluded the U.S. team's World Cup campaign. His controversial performance led to a complaint being lodged with FIFA ethics investigators.

Born in New York but raised in Britain, Balogun began his career at Arsenal's academy before moving to Middlesbrough and later to Reims in the French league. He then joined Monaco, where he scored 13 goals in 30 Ligue 1 matches during the 2021-2022 season.
