Rahul Gandhi takes stock of key political issues of Maharashtra, asks office-bearers to stand by party ideology

On September 2, 2026, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi embarked on a day-long visit to Nashik for the party’s ‘Sanghatan Srujan Abhiyan’. The primary purpose of his trip was to obtain a comprehensive evaluation of crucial political matters in Maharashtra. These included the removal of names from the electoral rolls, Maratha and OBC reservation concerns, and tribal demonstrations. This was the second visit Gandhi made to the state in a fortnight, following his 'Chhatron ki Goonj' address in Pune.

Upon his arrival, Gandhi convened an exclusive closed-door meeting with around 20 senior State leaders. During this gathering, he sought their insights on key issues plaguing the State. These issues encompassed the deletion of names from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the ongoing Maratha agitation, the OBC reservation debate, tribal protests, opposition to the costly Shaktipeeth super expressway, and alleged corruption surrounding the upcoming Kumbh Mela, scheduled to be held in Nashik.

Following the meeting, Gandhi engaged with the families of the district Congress committee presidents before concluding the day at the training camp’s closing session. He urged the district presidents to bolster the organization and disseminate Congress's ideology across the State. In a unique gesture, he also introduced them to the martial art of jiu-jitsu.

The visit also saw Gandhi interacting with protesting tribal students from Nashik, Pune, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Nagpur. He listened to their grievances and reassured them that the Congress party would stand by them in their struggle.

Congress leaders present during the morning meeting with Gandhi included Harshvardhan Sapkal, Vijay Wadettiwar, Satej Patil, Balasaheb Thorat, Naseem Khan, Chandrakant Handore, Manikrao Thakare, Rajnitai Patil, Varsha Gaikwad, Praniti Shinde, Vishwajeet Kadam, Mohan Joshi, B.M. Sandeep, Rehana Chishti, and Vamshi Reddy.
