President Mahama dissolves boards of nine state institutions

President John Dramani Mahama has officially dissolved the governing board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) with immediate effect, according to a directive released on September 2, 2026. The disbanded board, chaired by Dr Fred Awaah, was established in December 2025. Among the members of the dissolved NSA board were notable figures such as NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, National Sports College representative Fuseini Bawa, representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Security Services Sports Association, National Paralympic Committee, and Ghana Olympic Committee.

Additionally, distinguished sporting personalities Hajia Sulemana Zenabu, Alhaji Iddris Muntawakilu Ahmed, and Prof Emmanuel Osei Sarpong, as well as Theresa Osahene, represented various aspects of sports development. The dissolution of this board comes at a critical juncture for Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars, who are set to host The Gambia in their second group match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month.

The facilities, including the Accra and Baba Yara stadia, have been under scrutiny for their poor condition, unable to accommodate high-profile matches and events.
