Police respond to downtown Minneapolis shooting that injured 2 officers, others

Minneapolis police are currently investigating a shooting incident near 15 East Grant Street, resulting in injuries to several individuals, including two police officers. A city alert has been issued, advising residents to steer clear of the area as the situation unfolds. The intersection of Nicollet and Grant streets, where the shooting occurred, was met with an overwhelming response from law enforcement agencies, surpassing the capabilities of the Minneapolis Police Department alone.

Emergency responders from neighboring cities such as St. Louis Park, Edina, the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota State Patrol, transit police, and sheriff deputies from surrounding areas were deployed to the scene. Additionally, special agents from the St. Paul ATF field division have also been dispatched to assist.

The authorities are urging the public to avoid the area between 12th Street and Franklin Avenue, as well as from Hennepin Avenue to Third Avenue South, to ensure everyone's safety. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz confirmed that state officials are on the ground in Minneapolis to provide support to local law enforcement and will offer further updates as more information becomes available.

The focus of the police response has been on an apartment complex on Grant Street, where officers armed with long guns have been monitoring the building for an extended period. Several heavy armored SWAT vehicles were positioned at the intersection, while ambulances were deployed both in the immediate vicinity and along the streets leading toward downtown.

Multiple stretchers were observed being taken out of the building, with some individuals reportedly suffering leg injuries. The condition of other injured persons has not yet been determined. A crowd gathered nearby reportedly witnessed activity on the eighth floor of the complex, where residents appeared to be inside their units, remaining in place as police worked to assess the situation.
