Leapmotor has announced that it will soon introduce a third model to its range in South Africa, the B03X. This will be the company's first electric vehicle (EV) and the most affordable option, according to the company. The B03X is expected to slot in below the B10, which was recently launched by Leapmotor. The B03X is a compact crossover that will be based on the same Leap 3.5 platform as the other models in the range.

The B03X will be 245 mm shorter, 20 mm lower, and 45 mm narrower than the B10, with a wheelbase that is 130 mm shorter. Despite its smaller size, the B03X will have 602-litres of boot space, compared to the B10's 420-litres. When the rear seats are folded down, this increases to 1 549-litres. The B03X will be powered by two battery pack options, which will be driven by a single electric motor on the front axle.

The first option, the 403 variant, will have a 39.8-kWh battery that produces 70kW/150Nm, with a claimed top speed of 160 km/h and a range of 403 km (based on China's CLTC scale). The 505 variant will have a bigger 53-kWh battery, which produces 90kW/150Nm, with a claimed range of 505 km and a 0-100 km/h time of 10.6 seconds. The B03X will be priced from 65 800 yuan to 86 800 yuan in China, which is equivalent to R156 616 and R206 600, respectively, without taxes. The official reveal of the B03X in South Africa is expected to be announced in due course.
