Pemandu ambulans didakwa pandu melulu sebabkan kematian pelajar kolej

A private ambulance driver, Mohd Noorikhmal Baharuddin, 41, faced charges in Jasin Magistrate Court on Monday for allegedly operating his vehicle recklessly, causing the death of a motorcycle rider who was also a college student. Noorikhmal denied the charges and faced the court alone on Monday morning, according to Sinar Harian.

According to the police charge sheet, he was accused of operating a Toyota Hiace ambulance recklessly, leading to the death of Muhammad Amirul Asyraaf Md Azizan, 18, at the three-way traffic light intersection in Kampung Ayer Merbau, here, around 9:15 am on August 26. His prosecution was based on Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

If convicted, he could face up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000, in addition to losing his driver's license for up to five years. Deputy prosecutor Mohd Hafiz Othman presented the case, while Noorikhmal was represented by attorney Kharen Jit Kaur. Prosecutors proposed a RM8,000 bail for Noorikhmal, along with a suspended driving license condition pending the outcome of the case.

However, Noorikhmal's attorney requested the court to set a lower bail amount, which was granted by the court. The court subsequently approved a RM3,000 bail with one surety and set the case for a re-scheduling hearing on September 17.
