Owkin signs AI drug discovery deal with Boehringer for cancer, immunology

Owkin, an AI company, has announced a licensing agreement with German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim. This partnership will grant Boehringer access to Owkin's AI research platform and patient data, with the aim of accelerating the discovery of drugs for cancer and immunity-related diseases. The deal further integrates Boehringer into a growing list of pharmaceutical companies utilizing Owkin's AI technology; AstraZeneca signed a licensing agreement in May, while Sanofi recently extended its partnership through a five-year agreement in June.

The collaboration is built upon a pilot project undertaken by Owkin in 2025. During this project, Owkin employed patient tumor samples and related biological datasets to assist Boehringer in identifying potential drug targets. Thomas Clozel, Owkin's CEO, shared this information with Reuters.

As part of the new agreement, Owkin will license multimodal oncology data to Boehringer. Additionally, the company will generate fresh data within the realm of immunology. Owkin sources and generates patient data in cooperation with its worldwide patient data network. The financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed.
