Ontario byelections near finish line with trade war looming large

Affordability, healthcare access, and education have consistently been key issues for candidates, but the looming trade war has introduced new variables into the equation. Liberal candidates are counting on Prime Minister Mark Carney's strong approval rating, which could provide a boost for their chances in the upcoming elections. The Progressive Conservatives, led by Premier Doug Ford, have also expressed optimism, claiming that Ford's recent tough stance against Trump will resonate with voters.

The New Democrats, on the other hand, are focusing their efforts on retaining their stronghold in Scarborough Southwest and gaining a foothold in Hamilton East-Stoney Creek. They are employing a similar strategy to the other parties, hoping to capitalize on the national narrative surrounding the trade war in order to sway public opinion. The Progressive Conservatives, however, hope to maintain their strong presence in York-Simcoe, an area they currently consider to be a key stronghold.
