Old hits, new fire: Togbe Afrika makes triumphant return after 20-year music break

Veteran Ghanaian musician Togbe Afrika has returned to active music after more than two decades away, making a triumphant return at the Togbe Afrika Homecoming concert held at Infinity Stars Hotel. The event honored him as King of African Music by Chief Ekle II of Penyi Hata, adding a traditional and meaningful ceremony to the performance.

Togbe Afrika, whose stage name carries the chiefly title "Togbe," used the occasion to showcase his musical prowess by performing a mix of old and new songs, bridging his past and present. The audience enthusiastically responded to his return, singing and dancing to familiar old hits from his gospel and hiplife era, while his newer Afropop tracks captivated younger party-goers.

Togbe Afrika's decision to share the stage with emerging artists further emphasized his role as a connector between established talent and newer musicians, helping to create a unique blend of old-school sounds and fresh talent. The concert, which took place on his birthday, was reported to have ended peacefully, with support from local authorities and Togbe Afrika himself acknowledging the Regional Minister for his backing.

His next scheduled performance is on 26 September 2026 at Nitrogen Beach Resort in Adutor, where the audience will determine whether his second chapter as the King of African Music can gather momentum.
