Nyoro: I would beat Ruto hands down if election was held today

Kiharu Member of Parliament and leader of the People’s Party of Kenya, Ndindi Nyoro, confidently declared that he would win an election against President William Ruto if it were held today. During a television interview on September 2, 2026, Nyoro stated, "Hands down. Tell me how he can beat me." He believed he was more prepared to lead Kenya than any other individual in the country.

If elected, Nyoro promised to provide free basic education in all secondary schools within three months. Nyoro emphasized that his readiness extended beyond a political position, stating, "In terms of being prepared, I am prepared to be anything, including the president of Kenya." He acknowledged the country's major challenge, advocating for a united front to address it.

Nyoro's comments came as there was renewed discussion about President Ruto's succession and the country's political future. The Kiharu MP also criticized government borrowing, specifically targeting funds allocated for sports infrastructure. He highlighted the Talanta Sports City stadium as an example, noting that Sh45 billion had been borrowed and that the project would incur Sh100 billion in interest over 15 years.

Nyoro's remarks reflected his presidential aspirations alongside a cautionary tone about Kenya's escalating debt burden as political parties and leaders prepare for the 2027 elections.
