Northeast fashion: Delhi Fashion Week just got a stunning cultural twist!

Delhi Fashion Week 2026 added a cultural twist with the International Reinvent Northeast segment, showcasing Northeast India's rich textile traditions and contemporary fashion. The event, held at ITPO, Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, during the five-day Film Expo India, aimed to promote Northeast India's handlooms, weavers, women, culture, and entrepreneurial potential.

The segment highlighted the unique Ryndia silk from Meghalaya, featuring designer Batkyntilin Mawthou and weaver Iaineh. The collection, presented by celebrity dancer Kanchan Chakma, demonstrated how traditional Meghalaya fabrics could be transformed into modern fashion while maintaining their cultural essence.

Another presentation celebrated Northeast India's Naari Shakti, featuring traditional and contemporary dresses from the region's diverse communities. The runway represented the Seven Sister states, showcasing indigenous textiles, customary designs, and the work of Northeast weavers. A special Manipuri dance performance added a vibrant cultural touch to the event.

Models from various parts of Northeast India and across the country participated in the runway, highlighting the region's diversity and cultural heritage. The segment also emphasized the potential of Northeast textiles in connecting traditional craftsmanship with contemporary markets, creating visibility for indigenous fabrics and supporting artisans, women, and local creative industries.
