NLC seeks fresh revalidation for sacked LG workers

The Nigeria Labour Congress has urged the Rivers State Government to reconsider the sack of local government workers and allow them another chance to prove their legitimacy. NLC Chairman Alex Agwanwor made the appeal in Port Harcourt, stating that it is in the interest of the workers' families. The recent approval of a staff payroll verification exercise by Governor Siminalayi Fubara was aimed at eliminating "ghost" workers across the 23 local government areas.

However, Agwanwor pointed out that some workers might have been missed during the last verification, hence the call for a fresh review. The workers are asked to provide documents such as letters of employment, staff identity cards, nominal rolls, and bank statements for further verification. The NLC is prepared to cooperate with the state government to resolve the issue, emphasizing that no genuine worker should be permanently removed from the payroll without a chance to explain their situation.

Agwanwor also mentioned that those employed without the approval of the local government service commission should be considered.
