Nick Caserio: NFL players going back to college is "ridiculous," but "doesn't really impact our job"

Nick Caserio, the General Manager of the Texans, has expressed his thoughts on the ongoing controversy in college football. In a recent interview, he stated that the idea of NFL players returning to college is "ridiculous." However, he clarified that this issue does not significantly impact their operations, particularly in terms of training camp preparations.

Caserio explained that if players choose to return to college, they should be evaluated according to the college system's guidelines. This approach has also been applied to basketball, where a player who went back to Alabama while in the G-League was considered. Caserio emphasized that the distinction between professional and amateur athletes is crucial.

While he acknowledged the absurdity of the situation, Caserio pointed out a potential irony in the NCAA's rules. He questioned why the NCAA is willing to accept a five-year rule but denies a fifth year to players who didn't have access to one. This inconsistency has led to various problems throughout the college sports system, which ultimately led to the current reckoning. The players are merely reacting to their circumstances, seeking fair treatment under the existing rules.
