Ndindi Nyoro: Ruto ignored warnings over my removal as budget chair

People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro disclosed that some leaders had cautioned President William Ruto against removing him from his role as chairperson of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee. The warnings surfaced after Ruto had already dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Nyoro noted that some of his associates also questioned the decision targeting him.

In their last conversation with the President, they discussed Nyoro's absence from the impeachment proceedings. Despite the removal, Nyoro maintained his position as budget chair for several months, attending regular meetings with Ruto. Some of Nyoro's colleagues attempted to dissuade Ruto from his decision, warning that removing him would exacerbate political tensions.

Subsequently, these colleagues informed Nyoro of the President's comments about him, which translated roughly to "That young man is arrogant because he does not come to plead." Nyoro's final discussion with Ruto reportedly occurred in 2025. Since then, Nyoro has emerged as a vocal critic of the Ruto administration, asserting that genuine love for Kenya cannot coexist with support for Ruto's leadership.

He also criticized widespread corruption among political figures, urging Kenya to have leaders prioritizing public service over personal gain. Nyoro's statements emerge as political coalitions form ahead of the 2027 General Election, positioning him as a prominent opposition figure.
