Municipality Ministry issues green school guidelines for new academic year

Doha, Qatar – The Ministry of Municipality has released environmental guidelines for schools ahead of the 2026-2027 academic year. The initiative, themed "How Can We Create a Green and Sustainable School Environment?", aims to promote sustainable practices among students and school communities.

The guidelines encourage students to engage in tree planting and responsible water usage on school premises and in adjacent areas. Proper care of plants, including appropriate watering and avoiding excessive resource consumption, is emphasized.

Additionally, the ministry urges students to safeguard green spaces and agricultural beds, refrain from harming plants, and assist in maintaining clean and waste-free surroundings. Waste management guidance includes the importance of source segregation, with recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal cans placed in blue recycling containers. Food waste should be kept separate from recyclables in grey containers, while general waste goes in the same receptacles.

The ministry underscores that source waste sorting contributes to cleaner schools, waste reduction, and the promotion of sustainable practices. These guidelines are part of broader efforts to foster environmental awareness and sustainable behavior among students from a young age, ultimately creating healthier, cleaner, and more environmentally responsible learning environments.
