Mumbai: Training Camp Held For Election Officials To Ensure Accurate Electoral Rolls Amid Ongoing SIR Drive Across State

In Mumbai, as the state undergoes a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a training camp for Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AERO) was held on Wednesday at the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Natyagruha in Vile Parle. Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam provided guidance on the SIR exercise, emphasizing the importance of ensuring no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible individual is included in the electoral roll.

Officials were instructed to organize special camps for young voters and students to facilitate the filling of Form 6 for new voter registration. Senior officials, including Additional District Election Officer Prajakta Verma-Lavangare and Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr Vipin Sharma, attended the training camp. However, cybercriminals are reportedly exploiting the SIR process to target Mumbai residents, especially senior citizens, through fake links and malicious APK files.

In one incident, a retired bank employee was allegedly scammed of over Rs 30 lakh by fraudsters posing as Election Commission officials. The Mumbai Police are investigating these scams and working to identify the perpetrators.
