Member of Ahmadi community killed in suspected targeted attack in Mandi Bahauddin: police

A member of the Ahmadi community was fatally shot in Mandi Bahauddin district, Punjab, on Wednesday evening, according to police. The incident occurred around 6:30 PM on Main Eidgah Road near the deputy superintendent of police's office in the Saddar Circle. The victim, who resided in Lalazar, Mandi Bahauddin, was returning home from his workshop when he was followed by two unidentified men.

Upon reaching the main road near Eidgah, the attackers opened fire, killing the victim instantly. He was taken to the scene without any chance of recovery.

City police station SHO Saleem Bakhsh confirmed that the victims belonged to the Ahmadi community and that the incident was being treated as a targeted killing. DSP Rana Jameel Ahmed also stated that the victim was deliberately targeted as part of a planned attack. Police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information and collected evidence from the crime scene. They launched an investigation, with personnel from other law enforcement agencies present at the site.

DPO Mandi Bahauddin, Lieutenant (retd) Kamran Amir Khan, said that the initial investigation revealed that the incident was indeed a targeted killing. They are working diligently to identify and apprehend the assailants using evidence collected from the crime scene and other pertinent information. A case has been registered, and legal proceedings will follow once the victim's heirs submit an application.

The body remained at the scene when this report was filed, and a large police contingent cordoned off both sides of the road as the investigation continued.
