Majority of Americans oppose US military action against Iran: poll

A recent poll reveals that a majority of Americans, 54%, oppose the US military action against Iran, while only 39% support it. This sentiment has surged to its highest level in six months, according to a report by Global Strategy Group for Navigator Research. Independent voters, who make up a significant portion of the electorate, displayed the strongest opposition, with 66% opposing the war.

Democrats also showed a narrow preference for handling the Iran conflict, with 36% trusting Democrats compared to 32% for President Donald Trump and Republicans. This marks a shift from March, when Republicans and Trump held an eight-point advantage over Democrats. The poll found that 58% of Americans believed the war with Iran had not been worth it, with 41% strongly agreeing with this view.

Only 34% of respondents thought the war had been worth it, an eight-point increase since April, when only 50% held that view. Additionally, the poll indicated a shift in which political party Americans trust more to manage the conflict. Democrats now hold a four-point edge over President Trump and Republicans, with 36% trusting Democrats and 32% choosing Republicans, reversing an eight-point Republican advantage in March.

The overall approval rating for President Trump plummeted to its lowest since his presidency, with just 33% approving of his performance in the White House and 64% disapproving. A majority of Americans, including 87% of Democrats and 71% of Republicans, believe US involvement in Iran "will go on for an extended period of time," with only 16% expecting the conflict to end in a few weeks. The online poll surveyed 1,166 US adults nationwide with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
