Maharashtra HSRP Drive: 33,993 Vehicles Penalised, ₹79.13 Lakh In Fines Collected Since July 1

Mumbai, September 2, 2026: Maharashtra's enforcement initiative targeting vehicles lacking High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) has led to the penalty of 33,993 vehicles and the collection of Rs 79.13 lakh in fines since July 1. Teams from 60 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) examined 106,668 vehicles across the state during the period, according to transport department records.

HSRP Compliance In Older Vehicles The HSRP mandate applies to vehicles registered before April 1, 2019. Owners were granted multiple extensions to install the security plates before the enforcement began on July 1. Following the deadline's expiration, RTO teams have ramped up checks at various locations, taking action against vehicles without the mandatory plates.

Compliance Challenges Nearly one-third of the inspected vehicles were found without HSRP plates and incurred penalties. The department has amassed Rs 79.13 lakh in fines so far.
