Mahama set to reshuffle CEOs of state-owned enterprises

President John Dramani Mahama is preparing to restructure the leadership of Key Institutions (CEOs) within State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). This initiative, announced to officials including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, CEOs and board members, is part of a broader strategy to enhance institutional leadership and coordination. The move follows recent ministerial changes and the dissolution of certain boards.

The President's office emphasized the need for political appointees to uphold integrity, diligence, and respect for administrative procedures. They warned that actions undermining governmental cohesion or policy implementation would not be accepted. Public officeholders are urged to remain committed to the government's mandate. The impending leadership changes come amid a heightened focus on performance and accountability in SOEs.

Previously, the President had cautioned SOE CEOs about the consequences of underperformance and deviation from his administration's reset agenda. Additionally, the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) recently published its 2025 State Ownership Report, which evaluated the financial and operational performance of 162 state entities.

While the report noted a return to profitability for SOEs in 2025, it also identified persistent losses, negative equity, and governance issues at some entities. The Presidency has called for cooperation from all appointees in these ongoing changes, urging them to prioritize the improvement of government services for the people of Ghana.
