Lyte raises $165M at $1.6B valuation to bring accurate perception to robots

Robotics perception startup Lyte AI Inc. has secured $165 million in a Series C funding round led by Maverick Silicon, bringing its valuation to $1.6 billion. The company, founded by former Apple and PrimeSense engineers, specializes in custom silicon, multimodal sensors and spatial software for intelligent robotics. Lyte's technology addresses a fundamental issue in AI and robotics: vision and sensors are crucial for robots to understand their environment, interact with objects and translate motion into digital actions.

Alexander Shpunt, the company's CEO and co-founder, emphasizes that "Physical AI has a sensing problem before it has a model problem." While the robotics industry has been focusing on building foundation models using vast visual data, Lyte believes that robots need high-fidelity vision and sensors built into them for safe operation.

The startup's solution, LyteVision, is a platform that combines vision, high-resolution imaging and inertial sensors into a synchronized system, providing robots with trustworthy, real-time data. Lyte's custom silicon orchestrates this process, eliminating the delays, calibration drift and inaccurate data caused by off-the-shelf components often used in robotics platforms.

With the new funding, Lyte plans to scale its sensing silicon and sensor platform, enhance its AI and perception capabilities, and expand its deployment to robotics companies and industrial customers. The round included participation from existing investors Fidelity Management & Research Company, Atreides Management, Key1 Capital, Ora Global, as well as new investors.
