Local Cement Sales Fall in August

Cement shipments in Pakistan experienced a 0.70% decrease in August 2026 compared to the previous year, with a total of 4.039 million tons, according to the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA). The decline was primarily attributed to weaker sales from northern mills. Domestic shipments dropped by 1.07% to 3.283 million tons, whereas exports rose by 0.92% to 756,553 tons.

Northern mills faced a significant 9.43% drop in total shipments, reaching 2.691 million tons, with domestic sales falling by 2.59% to the same figure and no exports during the month. Southern mills, on the other hand, demonstrated stronger performance, with total shipments increasing by 22.97% to 1.35 million tons, domestic shipments growing by 6.53% to 591,164 tons, and exports surging by 39.83% to 756,553 tons.

In the first two months of fiscal year 2027, cement shipments rose by 2.80% to 8.521 million tons, with domestic shipments growing by 8.04% to 7.058 million tons, but exports fell by 16.69% to 1.464 million tons. Northern mills showed modest domestic growth of 7.98% during July-August, but their overall shipments declined by 0.22% to 5.784 million tons as exports dropped to zero from 440,614 tons the previous year.

Southern mills exhibited even stronger growth, with total shipments increasing by 9.83% to 2.738 million tons during the first two months, domestic sales rising by 8.28%, and exports growing by 11.21% to 1.463 million tons. The APCMA expressed concern over heavy rains and flooding in northern areas, stating that the damage to agriculture and housing had created additional challenges for affected communities and called for government assistance.
