LG Twins sign ex-closer Go Woo-suk following brief MLB stint

SEOUL, September 2 - The LG Twins have signed former All-Star closer Go Woo-suk for the remainder of the South Korean baseball season, as reported by Yonhap news agency. The 28-year-old pitcher will earn 150 million won (US$109,350) for the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) campaign, which concludes on October 7. In his return to the LG Twins' iconic pinstripes, Go will wear his customary No. 19 jersey.

Go became a free agent earlier this week after being designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins and refusing an outright assignment to the minor leagues. The Korean club approached the pitcher, who informed the LG Twins of his desire to return, and the team welcomed him with open arms. Go previously pitched for the LG Twins from 2017 to 2023, becoming their closer in 2019 and compiling 139 saves over the following five seasons.

He was then signed by the San Diego Padres in January 2024 but never played in Major League Baseball (MLB). Go was traded to the Miami Marlins in May 2024 and remained in the minors before being released in June 2025. Detroit Tigers signed him later that month and brought him back as a free agent in December 2025, but he only made it to Triple-A and was then traded to Minnesota.

Go made his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins on July 9, posting a 9.00 ERA over four innings before being demoted to Triple-A. The Twins are in desperate need of bullpen help, with veteran setup man Kim Jin-sung and star closer You Young-chan absent. Manager Youm Kyoung-youb plans to rely on Go for multiple innings in high-leverage situations, with Son Ju-young firmly established as the closer.
