‘Keep human culture alive’: Halifax music venue takes a stand against AI posters

Gus’ Pub, a beloved Halifax music venue, has taken a stand against event posters created by artificial intelligence. The north end bar, known for supporting local artists, has resisted the influx of AI-generated show fliers. TJ Ploughman, a bartender and musician at the pub, explained that their decision reflects their values as artists and a community-minded establishment.

Instead of accepting AI posters, Gus’ Pub has introduced a "No Name" template for performers. This move has garnered widespread support, with Halifax artist Gabriela Warlet praising the decision. Warlet, a graphic designer and musician, noted that the rise of AI is diminishing the demand for her original work. The Visual Arts Nova Scotia organization has expressed concern over the devaluation of human artistry by AI.

Gus’ Pub spokesperson, Ploughman, emphasized the importance of preserving human culture through their actions. Canadian Artists’ Representation/ Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) representatives echoed these sentiments, stating that supporting local artists is crucial, particularly during trade disputes.
