Karachi is Getting New Smart Parking System

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced the near completion of a pilot project for a digital parking system at selected Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) parking lots, with expected operational launch in the coming days. The Mayor clarified on social media that parking fees have already been eliminated on all KMC roads, and the new automated system will only be applicable to designated parking lots.

The objective of this initiative is to enhance transparency in parking fee collection and safeguard citizens from any additional or unauthorized charges by contractors. The automated receipt system will meticulously record all parking transactions, thereby curbing revenue leakage and preventing misappropriation of collected fees.

Additionally, the Smart Parking system will provide digital ticketing, cashless payment options, real-time updates on parking availability, and heightened security and monitoring at covered locations. A KMC spokesperson stated that this initiative will not only tackle Karachi's escalating parking demands but also signify a transition towards digital civic infrastructure, representing a substantial long-term investment in the city's future.
