Kalshi Just Issued Its First-Ever Lifetime Ban to the Funniest Person You Can Possibly Imagine

Former Republican congressman and meme icon George Santos received a lifetime ban from prediction market platform Kalshi. The ban is the first of its kind in the company's history, amid suspicions of inside trading on the platform. Santos was found to have violated the rules by placing multiple bets on markets related to his attendance of President Donald Trump's State of the Union address in February.

He also made false or misleading statements to influence the price of the contracts he purchased, making nearly $18,000 in profit from the scheme. Kalshi fined him $71,356, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission ordered him to return the profits as part of a settlement. Santos faces fines totaling $17,500. Santos is no stranger to controversy, having been expelled from Congress in 2023 for embezzling campaign funds and lying about his biography.

He pled guilty to wire fraud and identity theft in 2024 and had his seven-year sentence commuted by former President Trump. Santos previously worked as a paid ambassador for Polymarket, Kalshi's biggest rival, but was dropped by the company after CFTC investigations into his suspicious activities on Kalshi. Despite the ban and fines, Santos remains defiant, threatening to see how long Kalshi lasts.
