‘Just a commodity’: African player treatment slammed after Chelsea, Liverpool transfer failures

Ismaila Sarr's agent, Diomansy Kamara, has spoken out about the treatment of African footballers in light of the failed transfer attempts involving Sarr and Lamine Camara. Both Senegal-born players were at the center of major transfer rumors before the end of the summer window, but neither ultimately made the move. Sarr was reportedly interested in a move from Crystal Palace to Liverpool, while Camara was set to join Chelsea from Monaco in a £47 million deal, intended to replace Enzo Fernandez who had already transferred to Manchester City for a then-record £125 million.

However, the transfer involving Sarr fell through as Monaco withdrew from the deal on the final day of the transfer window. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace decided to keep Sarr on board. The agent highlighted the need to move away from viewing African players as mere commodities, emphasizing that they deserve respect for their work and career aspirations. Kamara reiterated that while clubs have the right to decide on transfers, the players' desires and ambitions should also be taken into account.

The agent stressed that a transfer should not simply be a matter of club finances and contract terms, but should also involve the player's voice in decisions that significantly impact their career. He concluded by reminding everyone that the players write history, and their voices must be heard.
