Jury in Malta acquits businessman accused of masterminding slaying of journalist

VALLETA, Malta (AP) — A jury in Malta acquitted a Maltese businessman accused of masterminding the 2017 car bomb murder of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia on Wednesday. Yorgen Fenech, the businessman, was indicted in 2021 on charges of complicity and criminal conspiracy related to the slaying. He pleaded not guilty, and on Wednesday, the jury found him not guilty on both counts. This verdict came after Fenech was the last of a half-dozen individuals charged in the plot to be prosecuted.
