Jeonbuk National University selected for government-backed robotics graduate school project

Jeonbuk National University has been chosen for a government-backed initiative aimed at establishing specialized graduate schools in advanced industries. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on Monday that the university's Specialized Graduate School for Robotics has been designated as a specialized graduate school for national strategic advanced industries.

The university confirmed the designation on Tuesday, highlighting that it will operate primarily through its Department of Advanced Robotics, which is part of the Graduate School.

The government's Support Program for Specialized Graduate Schools in Advanced Industries will provide Jeonbuk National University with 15 billion won ($10.9 million) over the next five years. This funding is intended to cultivate master's- and doctoral-level professionals who will spearhead advancements in manufacturing robots and artificial intelligence (AI).

Additionally, the funds will be allocated towards establishing a robotics industry innovation hub, which will be connected to the region's advanced manufacturing and mobility sectors.

The university's selection underscores its existing expertise in education and research, particularly in the areas of robotics and AI. By receiving this prestigious designation and substantial financial support, Jeonbuk National University is poised to make significant contributions to the development of cutting-edge robotics technologies and their integration into various industries.
