‘It’s done now’: India’s Test team should move on from Jadeja, says former batter

Former India cricket wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta has suggested that veteran spinner Ravindra Jadeja should no longer be the go-to man for the Test team. The 37-year-old is no longer the first-choice spinner, with Dasgupta stating that the recent tour to Sri Lanka highlighted a decline in Jadeja's performances. Although Jadeja took four wickets on the tour, he couldn't make a significant impact on the fifth day of the second Test in Colombo.

India started the game with a narrow 16-run deficit and four wickets in hand, but could not break Sri Lanka's resilient lower-order batting, led by Sonal Dinusha's century. Despite Jadeja's three wickets for 94, Sri Lanka managed to extend their lead to 216 after being asked to follow-on. Dasgupta believes that the Indian spin unit, excluding young left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, lacked attacking qualities during the tour.

He emphasized that while Jadeja was a great servant, it was time for him to move on. Dasgupta also pointed out that no-ball issues affected Jadeja and the other spinners' rhythm during the series. Washington Sundar, a left-arm off-spinner, could potentially fill the void left by Jadeja, as he is as effective as Jadeja and ready to take over the role.
