Iran launches retaliatory strikes as conflict escalates

Iran retaliated against the United States after the latter launched attacks on Iranian targets on Sunday, according to Iranian news outlets. The most significant strike occurred in Jordan, where the Revolutionary Guards reported an intense ballistic missile attack on Camp Titi, a US Marine Corps base. Jordanian army officials said they intercepted ten Iranian missiles but did not report any injuries or hits on the training camp located near the borders with Israel and Saudi Arabia. Ten other missiles reportedly landed in remote areas.

Kuwait and Bahrain also experienced missile and drone attacks, with Jordanian and Bahraini officials warning of Iranian hostilities. The latest round of conflict began with the US strikes in response to Iranian attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, where one-fifth of global oil supplies pass through. Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed to match any US move to return to a deal aimed at ending the war, warning that a return to a policy of pressure and threats could derail diplomacy efforts.
