Iran claims 5 killed at wedding during US attack: 'Turned it into a funeral'

At least five individuals lost their lives and dozens sustained injuries when a US attack targeted a wedding ceremony near Sirik, a coastal region on Iran’s Strait of Hormuz. According to Iran’s Mehr news agency, a four-year-old child among the victims. An additional 68 people were reported to have been injured, as cited by Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency, based on information from a provincial official.

Iran asserted that the attack transformed the joyful occasion into a scene of desolation. The country’s ministry of foreign affairs conveyed the grievance in a statement, stating, “They turned a wedding into a funeral. The flowers of love fell to the ground, our bride’s white dress was stained with blood, and they turned our laughter into tears and sorrow.”

The ministry emphasized that the loss would not be forgotten and vowed that Iran would respond to the act. “But this blood and this grief will never be forgotten. We will never forget this crime, nor will we leave it unanswered,” the statement read. Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson highlighted the significance of the incident, connecting it to a series of atrocities that had transpired prior.

This reference was reportedly made in response to a US assault on a primary school in Minab, which resulted in the deaths of 168 children on February 28. Iran vowed to counter “these savage crimes with firmness.” Additionally, the foreign ministry criticized governments and international institutions that had remained silent or attempted to justify the attacks. Iran stated that those who remained silent today would bear the consequences tomorrow.
