iOS 27 gives Apple Pay its best upgrade in years with redesign

iOS 27 brings Apple Pay's most significant upgrade in years, boasting a completely redesigned checkout flow. Apple Pay has grown to become one of the most popular payment methods globally, even securing support from major retailers like Walmart. Given its widespread use, any substantial change to the design could be risky, especially considering the potential errors that could arise from a design overhaul.

Apple Pay receives a fresh aesthetic in iOS 27 when checking out in apps or on the web, and I must say, it's an excellent improvement that excels in every aspect.

The previous checkout design had its share of issues. Even after years of using Apple Pay, I still found it challenging to switch cards. I would invariably tap near the top, where the active card is displayed, only to be redirected to an address screen before I could locate the actual card selection menu. iOS 27 rectifies this issue.

Upon opening the checkout interface for the first time, you'll notice additional cards displayed on either side of your default card, allowing you to swipe between them seamlessly to switch. This new interface is not only quick and easy, but it is also far more intuitive.

Moreover, iOS 27 provides more information onscreen simultaneously and uses vibrant icons to denote crucial details like shipping methods, addresses, billing addresses, and more. This redesign makes it much easier to verify that everything is accurate and correct. You can then swiftly double-click to pay with the assurance that there are no mistakes.

Designing such a significant change for a feature used by millions with real-world consequences for errors is a challenging task. However, in my opinion, Apple has done a fantastic job with iOS 27's Apple Pay revamp.
