India to host inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027

India will host the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy from February 14 to 28, 2027, following its relocation from Sri Lanka, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament's dates and venues have been finalized, with matches set to be played at the Cricket Club of India's Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara. Bangladesh, South Africa, and India were considered potential hosts before the ICC Board officially approved India's bid on September 1.

Sri Lanka's failure to secure the hosting rights for the 2027 edition of the tournament was attributed to concerns over government interference in cricket administration. The ICC Board had previously lost the hosting rights for the 2024 U19 World Cup to South Africa. The tournament will feature six teams: England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and India. They will compete in a round-robin format, with the final match scheduled for February 28, 2027.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah described the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy as an exciting new chapter for women's cricket. He emphasized that the tournament would bring together the best teams in the world for a high-quality competition, encouraging further improvement in team rankings and global competition. Shah also highlighted the significance of hosting a marquee ICC women's event annually, which would contribute to building momentum, consistency, and a stronger rhythm for the women's game, its players, and fans worldwide.
