On August 29, IMPACT: Friends Improving Allegany County Trails Inc. hosted a trail walk and run event in Phillips Creek, Turnpike and Palmer’s Pond state forests. The second annual event featured three walking and three running divisions, with participants engaging in 5K, 10K and 25K races and walks. A total of 171 people took part in the event, with the 25K race commencing at 7:15 a.m. Volunteers played a crucial role in the event, staffing locations along the course and ensuring participants exited the forest safely.
Organizations and agencies that assisted include KLARA ham radio operators, A.U. Honors Student Service Committee, A.U. Women’s Soccer Team members, Scouts of America Troop 19, New York State Horse Council and several volunteer groups. The event organizers aim to hold the trail run again on the fourth Saturday of August 2027 and invite community members to participate in a trail maintenance day on September 19.
