IGP narrates how Air Force strike paved way for ‘2Baba’s death’

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, recounted how the Nigerian Air Force played a crucial role in bringing down the notorious criminal known as 2Baba in Rivers State. The IGP made the statement during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Air Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he met with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal S.K.

Aneke. The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Air Force in addressing evolving security challenges. Air Marshal Aneke commended the longstanding professional relationship between the two institutions and emphasized the need for sustained collaboration, particularly in joint operations, intelligence sharing, and enhanced air support for police operations.

The IGP highlighted the need for improved protection of critical national infrastructure, enhanced logistics and response capabilities, and regular reviews of joint operational engagements. He revealed that when he was the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, a police officer was killed by 2Baba, who dismembered his body and spread the parts around, making it difficult to locate.

The criminals were strategic and chose a dense forest area as their habitat, making it challenging to reach them. After extensive intelligence gathering, the Nigerian Air Force conducted reconnaissance and identified the criminals' movements. They informed the police about the day 2Baba planned to strike, which came true. Though 2Baba was not killed in that operation, the Nigerian Air Force eliminated about five of the criminals, significantly weakening their camp.

This operation caused fear among the criminals, leading to the eventual death of 2Baba and the arrest of others. The IGP expressed gratitude for the Nigerian Air Force's support and stated that they would explore ways of working together more closely in the future.
