Huawei’s new Watch D3 brings medical-grade blood pressure monitoring to your wrist

Huawei has launched its new Watch D3, a smartwatch that brings medical-grade blood pressure monitoring directly to the wrist. Unlike most mainstream wearables that estimate blood pressure using an optical sensor or periodic calibration against a real cuff, the Watch D3 uses a mechanical airbag built into its strap to mimic traditional blood pressure monitoring devices with an inflatable cuff.

This approach allows the watch to deliver an accurate reading without the need for calibration or a month-long wait, promising medical-grade results the moment it is strapped on.

The Watch D3 also features Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM), which continuously tracks blood pressure throughout the day and night, taking readings every 15 to 30 minutes. It complies with medical guidelines and takes at least 20 readings during the day and 7 overnight. Additionally, the watch offers features like Health Glance, which provides a report covering up to 11 health indicators in about 60 seconds, and Health Insights, which offers long-term trends based on health data.

A Health Community feature allows family members to view the wearer’s health data and receive real-time alerts if something seems concerning.

Despite its advanced medical features, the Watch D3 maintains a lightweight design, with a case thickness of just 11.3mm and a weight of 40 grams. It comes in three finishes—Black, White, and Mocha Gold—and will be available in the UK starting September 23 for £399.99 (~$540) through Huawei Store, Amazon, and select retail partners.

The device includes a two-year Worry-Free Care package covering display, battery, back cover, and airbag replacement, as well as liquid damage protection. In the UK, new buyers will also receive 10 months of Bupa Well+ health services worth £200, and a free Huawei Scale 3 along with a discount coupon for Amazon orders.
