Hochtief to acquire German power transmission firm Autmatec

Hochtief has finalized an agreement to acquire Autmatec, a German firm specializing in the construction, refurbishment, and installation of transmission line infrastructure. This acquisition aims to broaden Hochtief's footprint in the energy infrastructure sector, pending approval from the German Federal Cartel Office. The financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed.

Established in 1997 and headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, Autmatec caters to prominent transmission and distribution network operators. In 2026, Autmatec generated roughly €50m ($57.8m) in revenue and employed about 80 professionals. The company's services encompass the entire overhead transmission line spectrum, from site preparation to project management.

Hochtief's acquisition of Autmatec aligns with its strategy to capitalize on growth opportunities in markets driven by long-term investment trends such as grid modernization and energy infrastructure. European grid operators are planning substantial investments to facilitate electrification, integrate renewable energy, and bolster energy security, thereby sustaining demand for transmission line expertise.

Hochtief CEO Juan Santamaría stated, "The acquisition of Autmatec is fully aligned with our strategy of investing in high-growth infrastructure markets that benefit from long-term structural demand." Energy infrastructure is recognized as one of the pivotal investment themes of the present era, with modern, resilient electricity networks being crucial to this transformation.

With this transaction, Hochtief anticipates accessing Autmatec's technical capabilities, certifications, and relationships with network operators, positioning the company in one of Europe's most rapidly expanding infrastructure markets. Hochtief's Infrastructure division CEO Peter Hingott remarked, "Autmatec brings specialist expertise, strong customer relationships, and a highly skilled workforce.

By merging Autmatec's transmission line capabilities with Hochtief's engineering excellence, scale, and delivery expertise, we can support customers as they expand and modernize critical energy infrastructure across Germany and Europe."

Upon completion, Autmatec's present leadership team will retain their positions. Hochtief asserts that integration will grant Autmatec enhanced access to resources, an expanded customer base, and the ability to compete for larger projects. Moreover, the company highlighted that its German order book has doubled over the past four years, citing opportunities stemming from the government's €500bn infrastructure plan.
