Hera Pheri made Priyadarshan’s life ‘miserable’: ‘I hate shooting comedies’

Priyadarshan, a renowned director known for his comedic films in Malayalam, expressed his dislike for shooting comedies after working on Hera Pheri (2000). The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, and Tabu, made his life "miserable," according to Priyadarshan. He admitted that the comedy-drama led to a shift in his career trajectory, opting for dramas until Hera Pheri.

Despite the success of his early Bollywood projects and being praised as one of India's greatest comedy filmmakers, Priyadarshan now avoids comedy, preferring situational humor and character-driven stories. He also stated that he doesn't like actors making exaggerated faces while delivering jokes, but still detests making comedies.

Hera Pheri 3, a planned sequel, has been canceled due to legal issues, and Priyadarshan is currently working on his remake of the Malayalam film Oppam, Haiwaan.
