HC seeks fresh opinion from OGH forensic doctors over man’s death in Warangal

Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court has instructed the Warangal police to seek a fresh opinion from the Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at Osmania General Hospital regarding the possible cause of death of Lydella Raju, whose body was discovered with injuries in October 2025. The judge's decision comes after Raju's wife, Priyanka, filed a writ petition expressing her dissatisfaction with the previous opinion from the assistant professor at Kakatiya Medical College that Raju had died due to cardiac arrest.

The Geesugonda police had previously closed the case. The Warangal police provided a copy of the forensic doctor's response to a questionnaire from the Parkal Assistant Commissioner of Police regarding the circumstances surrounding Raju's death. The judge noted the absence of point-wise clarification as requested by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, and thus deemed the matter to require re-examination.

The OGH Forensic department was directed to review all relevant materials pertaining to the case and provide their professional opinion. The Warangal police were instructed to take appropriate legal action based on the report. Additionally, Justice K. Sarath Kumar of the Telangana High Court issued an interim direction suspending proceedings involving the acquisition of properties for the Rajiv Rahadari Elevated Corridor project.

The petitioners, including a nonagenarian Kallakury Subrahmanyam, argued that the proceedings violated the Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act-2013 and other relevant laws. In the interim direction, the judge directed the respondents, including the State and Union governments, Defence Estate Officer, and Secunderabad Cantonment Board, to file counter affidavits.
