Google Pics Rolls Out to Workspace With Default-On AI Image Tools

Google's Google Pics has begun rolling out to eligible Google Workspace customers with AI image generation and editing tools activated by default. The service, powered by Gemini, is now available to Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus editions of Workspace. It is not available to the lower-tier Business Starter version.

Google announced the rollout on September 1, with a gradual 15-day schedule for visibility. IT teams may need to review access and content-governance policies before users can access the tool company-wide, as the service can be turned off for entire domains, organizational units, or groups. Users can edit images from prompts or import files from their computer, Google Drive, or Google Photos.

They can also localize edits, modify or translate text, crop, upscale images, and revert to earlier versions. Google's Nano Banana imaging technology powers the application. Google's Workspace terms state that customer data is not used to train or fine-tune the generative AI models without the customer's permission. While Pics offers natural integration into existing workflows, it may not replace a dedicated design platform for some organizations.
