Ghana Medical Trust Fund Administrator hails Health Minister’s support as Fund marks first year

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has commended the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, for his guidance, honesty and dedication during the Fund's inaugural year. In a message celebrating the Fund's first anniversary, Darko-Opoku described the Health Minister as more than just the sector's minister, emphasizing his role in influencing significant decisions and overcoming challenges facing the Fund.

She highlighted the Fund's accomplishments as a result of extensive consultations, lengthy meetings, and contentious discussions, as well as the need for careful deliberation and tough choices. Darko-Opoku noted that there were times when no easy answers or perfect choices were available, but Akandoh had consistently been willing to engage, listen, question ideas, and provide direction in the decision-making process.

She particularly praised Akandoh for his willingness to work through challenging decisions collaboratively rather than seeking quick solutions. Darko-Opoku expressed gratitude for Akandoh's patience, guidance, and honesty, publicly "giving him his flowers" for his contributions to the Fund's work. The Administrator emphasized that the completion of the Fund's first year should not signal a slowdown, stressing that more work remained ahead.

She stated that the Fund would continue to face difficult decisions and undertake additional work to support Ghana's healthcare system. The message concluded with prayers for the Health Minister's continued blessing, strength, wisdom, and grace as he leads the health sector, describing Akandoh as a person whose commitment to the health sector was highly appreciated.
