GFA official rejects claims Ghana football is ‘completely broken’

The Head of Public Relations and Strategy for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, has dismissed claims that Ghanaian football is completely broken. In an interview on Sporty FM, Armstrong-Mortagbe acknowledged that there are areas that require significant improvement, but urged supporters and stakeholders to adopt a more balanced perspective on the state of the game.

The concerns surrounding Ghana football are not limited to the performance of the senior national team; they extend to issues of administration, player development, and the overall football structure. Armstrong-Mortagbe emphasized that the challenges should not overshadow the progress that has been achieved. He posed a question, "Is the glass half full or half empty?"

Reflecting on the broader impact of the Black Stars' performances on public perception, he stated, "Ghana football is not just about Black Stars, but for many fans, once the Black Stars do well, then all is well with Ghana football." According to Armstrong-Mortagbe, the Ghanaian football ecosystem extends beyond the senior men’s national team, encompassing domestic competitions, player development, administration, and other structures that contribute to the overall growth of football in the country.

While he admitted that there are challenges that need to be addressed, Armstrong-Mortagbe cautioned against labeling the entire system as "broken," as this would fail to recognize the progress that is being made. With the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season set to commence this weekend, the focus will now shift to the domestic game.
