Germany successfully tests Israeli ballistic missile

Germany successfully tested an Israeli LORA ballistic missile in the North Atlantic overnight, according to military officials on Wednesday. The test took place as Western powers seek to acquire long-range weapons to counter an increased threat from Russia. The LORA missile, built by Israel Aerospace Industries, has a range of up to 500 km and travels at higher speeds than the cruise missiles in Germany's arsenal, according to the defense ministry.

This marks a new chapter in deterrence and maritime defense readiness for Germany and its allies, with the test demonstrating that the missile can successfully deploy. Germany is engaged in a number of multinational collaborations to develop long-range missiles and also exploring options to purchase such weapons. The country currently has about 600 Taurus cruise missiles with a range of over 500 km, which can be launched from fighter jets such as the Tornado, F-15, or F-18, designed to destroy targets behind enemy lines.
