Fubara, Army Deepen Partnership to Protect Critical Infrastructure in Rivers

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to deepen the partnership between the state government and the Nigerian Army to safeguard critical infrastructure and address security challenges affecting economic activities in the region. Fubara made the commitment during a meeting with Major General Everest Ifeanyi Okoro, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, who visited Port Harcourt.

The visit took place amidst economic challenges in the state. Okoro, along with senior officers and security personnel, assured Fubara that the 6 Division would continue to prioritize the protection of lives, property, and critical infrastructure in Rivers State. The partnership between the state government and the Nigerian Army has existed prior to Fubara's administration and has proven crucial in tackling security issues.

Fubara assured Okoro that his administration will provide the necessary support for the GOC's new assignment. Both Fubara and Okoro emphasized that close cooperation among government and security agencies is vital to protect oil and gas infrastructure and other critical national assets, especially given the current economic challenges.

The governor also expressed confidence in Okoro's tenure and urged him to give priority attention to the strategic importance of Rivers to the national economy. Okoro, in turn, pledged that the 6 Division will continue to maintain professionalism and work together with other security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to address emerging security challenges.
