From Hollywood to big-time tennis as teen makes US Open debut

Los Angeles high school student Thea Frodin, 17, made her US Open debut in the women's singles main draw on Tuesday against top-seeded Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina. Frodin, who had a body double role in the Oscar-winning film "King Richard," was assigned Rybakina, the Wimbledon winner, for her first-round match. Rybakina, who has yet to lose a serve, defeated Frodin 6-3, 6-2 in a grueling one-hour 14-minute contest.

Frodin, who won the US national 18 and under championship and earned a wild card to the US Open, expressed that she wanted to experience playing against a professional player without any pressure. She was satisfied with her performance and is enthusiastic about the future. Rybakina praised Frodin's performance, saying she played really well that day.

As a 12-year-old, Frodin previously served as a stunt and body double for Demi Singleton, who played young Serena Williams in the movie. Frodin remains undecided about pursuing college education or a professional tennis career, focusing on finishing high school and seeing where the year leads. However, she is eager to face Rybakina again, hoping to gain more experience and improve.
