Forward Deployed Engineer: The IIT Program Silicon Valley Desperately Needs Now

The demand for Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) in Silicon Valley has skyrocketed, with postings increasing by an astonishing 729% year-on-year through April 2026. These AI specialists don't simply build models in a lab; instead, they embed themselves within a client's organization to ship working agentic systems and take ownership of the outcome. The average salary for experienced FDEs in the US ranges from $250,000 to $400,000, highlighting the high demand for these professionals.

The Residential PG Diploma in AI-ML & Agentic AI Engineering, offered by IIT Gandhinagar through its Competency Advancement Academy (CAA), is uniquely positioned to meet this growing need. This is the country's first postgraduate AI program delivered fully on an IIT campus, rather than online. The program's curriculum has been specifically tailored to focus on Forward Deployed Engineering, incorporating coursework on multi-agent architecture design and applied evaluation frameworks.
