Foreign workers take on bigger roles in Korea's financial industry

Oleg Smagin, a 31-year-old Russian national, has taken on a significant role within Korea's financial industry. Currently working as a senior manager at JB Financial Group's AX Strategy Division in Seoul, Smagin engages in market research, report writing, attending meetings and monitoring regulatory changes within the financial sector. Similar to his Korean counterparts, Smagin integrates into the workplace seamlessly, partaking in lunch breaks and after-work social events.

Smagin's journey to Korea began in 2014 when he joined as an exchange student. Later settling in the country, he leveraged his academic background in economics to excel in his current position. His primary task focuses on identifying new business opportunities tied to digital assets, exploring ways to incorporate digital assets like stablecoins into existing financial services. This role allows Smagin to utilize his knowledge and contribute to the evolving financial landscape in Korea.
