‘Fall 2: Deadpoint’ Review: Schlocky Sequel Can’t Reach the Heights of the Original

Scott Mann's 2022 film "Fall" followed two women climbing a 2,000-foot TV tower and getting stuck for days, exploiting viewers' fear of heights. The original movie was simple but effective, relying on minimal storytelling. Its sequel, "Fall 2: Deadpoint," faced the challenge of replicating the same atmosphere while offering new elements.

Harriet Slater plays Jax, the younger sister of the original film's main character, Shiloh, who dies in the first film. Jax discovers her sister's "Fuck-It List" and decides to honor her memory by doing a dangerous "Plank Walk" on a cliff in Thailand. Here, they encounter a guide, John, who charges them $5,000 despite the risks, including recent earthquakes.

The film's attempt to create suspense through high angles and narrow planks of wood is undermined by filming on flat backgrounds, reducing the sense of danger. The plot's predictability and implausible decisions made by the characters make "Fall 2: Deadpoint" more of the same, but its climax offers a brief rush of adrenaline. Despite the film's shortcomings, it's not entirely unforgivable, as embracing the absurdity can lead to enjoyment.
